Mircea Suciu comes from a nation that had been torn apart by political turmoil. After the violent insurrection that toppled the Communism regime, chaos and disorder ensued. As a Romanian artist who has lived through such extremes, Mircea Suciu, too, became haunted by the ghosts of the past. Because of this, one might say that Suciu sees the world in a cynical perspective; his disbelief in institutions, both religious and political, as well as disappointment in the depravity of humanity are apparent in his artworks. But the key point that sets him apart from most misanthropists lies in how Suciu takes his pain, anxiety, and distrust and channels them into his practice to create sublime images.

In that sense, A Touch of Evil is the physical representation of the artist‟s latest attempts “to arrive at iconic images that talk about the universal truth.” With his work, Suciu points out the wrongdoings of mankind and brings the grief of the past into a positive light.
